Packing and getting ready for a big move is not a favorite time for most people. If your moving process is not organized, it can create a very stressful and frustrating experience. When you are planning your move, it is important to remember that not all of your belongings should be packed. Most things can be packed away and put into storage or transported to your new location, but there are a few types of items that should not be packed or stored, or should at least be stored with extreme caution. And don't forget, 1-800-PACK-RAT is available for your storage and moving needs!
Don’t Pack These Items
1. Perishables:
Perishable items should never be stored in a storage unit as they can decompose and make a mess in the unit. Perishables such as food and plants should be properly packed if you intend to move them with you. If possible, consider giving away your perishable items before your move.
2. Hazardous Items:
Some items such as gasoline, kerosene, and other flammable or toxic substances should not be moved. Talk to your moving company about how you should transport these types of products. Again, you can consider giving these away or properly disposing of them.
3. Important Documents:
All important documents (birth certificates, social security cards, financial documents, etc.) should be placed in a fire-safe container and kept close.
