The big day has finally arrived! The cars and trucks are packed up, and you are ready to move into your new home. However, it is easy to forget to bring certain items that will be essential for the first few days in your new home. Check out our list below of items that are often forgotten.
Cleaning Supplies
On the road to your new home, you are most likely envisioning a bright new home with no dust and dirt. Unfortunately, this is not the case most of the time! Even if the previous owner cleaned the house, there might still be dust bunnies here and there. Also, you can count on there being dirt throughout the house from when the owners moved out. That being said, it's a great idea to bring some cleaning supplies for the first day at your new home. You do not have to spend a fortune but bring some of the basics. We recommend Windex, a vacuum, dish detergent, antibacterial/disinfectant spray, and lots and lots of paper towels!
Batteries
One of the most commonly overlooked items when moving into a new home is batteries. You may not think you'll need batteries, but there's a good chance you'll need them in the first few days. Whether it's a TV remote or a defective smoke detector, make sure you have some on-hand! Beyond that, just in case you have any problems with your electricity, bring your flashlight with some extra batteries as well!
Toolkit
Always have a toolkit on hand. WE REPEAT: always have a toolkit on hand. It is almost guaranteed that you will need a toolkit on the first day. Whether you need to assemble a bed frame or measure out where you can fit furniture and cabinets, this will come in handy. As you begin the move-in process, tasks will start to build up quickly. Come prepared so that you can complete important projects right away.
Phone Chargers
We don’t have to tell you how important your phone is to you. According to recent polls, phone chargers are the most commonly forgotten items in a long-distance move. Don’t be another statistic! Complications will happen on the actual move and the first day in your house so always have your phone fully charged and ready to go! To avoid any downtime, keep your phone charger in your bag at all times or a car charger in case you do not have power in your new home yet. We even suggest that you make this the very first thing you put into your day pack!
Toilet Paper
It is incredible how easy it is for toilet paper to be forgotten during a move. Save yourself a trip to the store on an already stressful day, and pack copious amounts of toilet paper. Everyone involved in the move will thank you for it!
Clothing Hangers
We suggest that you pack all your hangers in a couple of plastic bins and have them easily accessible. That way you can immediately hang up your clothes when you arrive instead of desperately searching for things to hang your clothes on! Make putting clothes hangers in every closet one of the first things you do when you arrive at your new home. That way when it comes time to unload everyone’s clothes you will have hangers ready to go which will make the job much more efficient.
