Moving day has arrived! You have prepared as much as you can and now it is time to literally get your move on. For the final part of our moving checklist series, we look at some of the small details to consider on your actual moving day and what to expect when you get to your new home in your new town.
Be sure to get up: Getting up early is never fun, but on a day like today, it is imperative you do so. Be sure you have plenty of time to tidy up, have a little breakfast, and begin to tackle your move head on. A good start to the day is a key component of a successful move.
Pack everything that isn’t nailed down: If you had any remaining items to pack up until this point, be sure you have the materials you need to get them ready to be moved. Don’t forget to mark what is in your boxes as well if you are packing late!
Do a cursory look around your old home: People can get into a hurry on their moving day and forget items in their closets or on selves. Avoid this kind of incident by simply doing a final walk through of your old home and check for any left-behind items.
Be good to good movers: If you have hired help on your moving day, be sure to tip well and have water or snacks on hand for them. They will undoubtedly work a little harder to ensure you have a pleasant move if they know you are trying to look after them.
Clean as you go: If you haven’t done so already, try to clean a little before you leave. Anyone can just walk out of their old home and never look back, but wouldn’t you want to walk into your new home and have it clean and ready for you to move in? Try to pay it forward and think about the family moving into your old home after you leave!
Protect the floor: If you have drop cloths or cheap shower curtains, now is the time to use them. Keep scratches from happening on your old hardwood floors and keep dirt off the carpet during your move. If it is raining out, it is especially important to do this, no matter if it is a DIY move or you have movers. Don’t leave a mess for the new owners.
Have your essentials bag ready: Be sure to have a bag of essentials for each member of the family ready to go. That way you can quickly take a shower and freshen up either at your new home that day or a hotel along the way.
