When it comes to packing your home for your upcoming move, moving your outdoor furniture and other items takes a bit of a different strategy. You might have decorations, furniture, inflatable pools, etc. to pack. These items are usually far different from what you have to move in your home. Check out these tips for packing your outdoor items and furniture.
Clean them first: Do yourself a favor before moving any outdoor furniture or other items and give them a good cleaning before moving or loading them. First, it'll save you the hassle of having to clean them when you move into your new home and second, it'll make it easier to cluster them in your moving transportation of choice with other items from inside your house. It'll keep dirt and grime from outside getting on your indoor items. A bonus to this is any cleaning you do will reveal any potential insect hitchhikers who might try to catch a ride. Clean them out before moving as well!
Take stock of what you can use: Try to envision before packing everything what you will be able or want to use at your new how. This might be a terrific opportunity to buy more modern and better furniture or to downsize and donate stuff you don't need anymore. Perhaps your children have also outgrown some of those toys and playhouses; another opportunity to downsize and possibly make some money by selling it. Some of your current stuff might not even fit or make sense to have in your new home, so take inventory of what you can use before spending time packing it all up.
Take apart what you can: Disassembling your couch or large furniture isn't an option for your indoor furniture. But that may not be the case for your outdoor furniture. Typically any tables you have can be broken down to make transporting them more manageable. Even some benches and chairs can be broken down, or at least some cushions can be removed. Anything you can safely disassemble should be to make the packing process a little easier. Just be sure that you keep all the parts together and can reassemble everything.
Carefully pack everything else: You will have furniture and other pieces that you will not be able to disassemble or need careful protection from being damaged. Make sure you have enough cushions, bubble wrap, furniture blankets, etc. ready to protect whatever you need. If you begin to run low on packing protection, try using towels or even the patio furniture cushions to protect your stuff. Look to see if you can stack anything as well. Most patio and outdoor furniture are designed to be stacked if it is of the same brand, so keep that in mind when packing.
