Let’s be honest, a move can throw even the most organized households into disarray. When you have a hundred things going on at once, it can be hard to keep up with everything you need. Let’s take a look at a few ways you can keep your move organized during the chaos.
- Plan it out
- Downsize
- Start early
- Label diligently
As soon as you know you will need to move, start planning out the details. Our moving professionals created a moving checklist to help our customers keep their move organized and on track. This to-do list will allow you to plan out even the smallest of details so you won't forget anything.
It’s always a good idea to do a big purge before a move. We all have unused items stored away that are taking up valuable space around the home. Getting rid of these things by holding a garage sale or donating to local charities will make it much easier when it comes time to pack and move. The less boxes you have to deal with, the more organized your move can be.
At least one to two months before your move, you should start to pack up your non-essential items like books, décor, rarely used furniture, off-season clothing, and other things you will not be using before the move. If you don’t have a space to use as a staging area, you can schedule for a portable storage unit to be delivered to your home where you can start packing early and at your own pace.
Labeling carefully and with details will help keep all your boxes organized and will make moving and unpacking much easier. Try color coding your labels to represent different rooms in your home so you can tell at a glance where each box needs to go. Also be sure to create a first night box filled with items you will need when you first arrive at your new home. Pack those belongings last so that they will be the easiest to access when you start unpacking.
