Summer Space Saving Storage Hacks

organized kitchenIt may still feel like Spring in parts of the country, but Summer is right around the corner! Along with swimming and vacations, Summer may also bring students home from college, relatives over for visits, and friends over for entertaining. When the whole family or a number of friends are in your space, it may begin to feel a little cramped.

Trust us, it’s not that difficult to have a clutter-free and spacious home or entertaining area for Summer if you consider these Summer space saving hacks.

Use transparent boxes in pantries and closets: Put away those bulky racks, over the door organizers and other unsightly tools and opt for cheap, easy to see clear plastic containers in various sizes. Whether in guest closets, linen closets or your closet, these boxes keep your shoes, belts, blankets, sheets and more neatly organized. Plus, you can store a lot more in one of the boxes than just stuffed on a shelf.

Pick up some storage furniture: Ottomans, chairs, benches, beds and more often come with drawers and storage areas built in! These pieces of multi-functional furniture don’t have to be expensive and can house guest linens, hide knick knacks and more!

Store it: Sometimes you need more space for a limited time, and you aren't quite ready to part with the clutter. No problem! Consider using a portable storage unit to temporarily free up valuable real estate so you, your family, and your friends can enjoy a spacious visit or create more space in your home.

Utilize pegboard shelves: Pegboard shelving can be a convenient way to store a variety of things on your wall. For instance, if you have a bunch of loose tools and other home improvement items scattered about, you can easily hang some pegboards and place those items there. Another tip is to create an outline of what you put on the board itself so that you keep everything organized.

Clear out and save your paperwork: Unless you have gone entirely paperless, you will undoubtedly have some important papers and documents you need to keep. Instead of piling them in a corner or stuffing them in boxes, consider getting a file cabinet (or two if you need it) for organization purposes. Keep an eye out at consignment stores and even office complexes looking to move for filing cabinets you can cheaply purchase!

Organize your kitchen: There is a multitude of items you can organize in your kitchen to create more space. If you store cleaning supplies and other items under your sink, get a Lazy Susan that allows you to grab what you need easily. Get some metal or heavy plastic file holders (or tension rods) to store your baking sheets and pans, so they don't fall over and create a mess. Get some metal stackable mesh shelves to store your plates, bowls, cups, etc., comfortably in your cupboards.

Adhesive hooks for hanging: Place some strong adhesive hooks on the inside of your open cabinets and doors so you can hang lids, pots, and pans. This will maximize the amount of space you have available will creating more room to store things.
