3. Boise's name is derived from the French word "boisé," which means "wooded" or "forest." In the 19th century, French-Canadian fur trappers were among the first Europeans to visit this area thanks to the massive amount of natural resources and wildlife. A trading post was established in the area and became known as Boise soon after.
